Public Ticket #1268247
child theme no css

  • aaenvato started the conversation

    the child theme is not using the child css.

    Hi aaenvato,

    That is sort of impossible since the style.css file is required to install any theme, parent or child.
    If the style.css file is not in the theme folder inside the zip then you might not be using the correct zip.

    Open up the zip and take a look a the folders in it and find the one called simple or simple-child with a style.css file in it.

    The simple-child would be the child theme folder you can drop in at wp-content \ themes \ on your server to install the child theme.

    Hope this clears things up.

    I agree that is seems impossible, but I am no stranger to wordpress and child themes. Even weirder still is that it is clearly using my footer and my single.

    Here is the basic structure

                     style.css (and all other files)

    this is all there is in my styles.css

    a {
      text-decoration: none;
      color: #5EA7B1;
      outline: none; }

    a:focus {
      outline: none; }

    /* Content
    --------------------- */
    .entry-content > *:last-child {
      margin-bottom: 0; }

    .entry-content p a:not(.more-link) {
      border-bottom: 0 dotted;
      text-decoration: none; }

    .entry-content p a:not(.more-link):hover {
      border-bottom: 5px red solid; }

    here is the test code on a page'
      <span class="thisismyclass">Bar Mitzvah</span>

    see it here: http://dev.eaffinepapers.com/portfolio/

    Hi there,

    This is getting a bit confusing.

    The files are present.
    What are you trying to do.
    If its overriding a file in the child them then from your statement it seems like you are able to do it - Even weirder still is that it is clearly using my footer and my single.

    Could you please clarify.

  • aaenvato replied

    Sorry to confuse

    The Child theme IS using the footer.php and single.php - they override the parent

    The Child theme IS NOT using the child style.css file.

    As an example, in style.css in the child folder I have the following style as a test (including the entire top of the file for you)

    Theme Name: Simple & Elegant Child
    Description: Child theme for Simple & Elegant Theme
    Author: Your name here
    Template: simple-elegant
    /* start write your custom CSS from here */

    /* Link
    --------------------- */

    on http://dev.eaffinepapers.com/portfolio/

    I have the code

    <span class="thisismyclass">Bar Mitzvah</span>

    but it is showing up gray and not underlined - I tried to add a screenshot but this system is so slow that it won't upload.

    thanks for your help in advance.

    Hi aaenvato,

    See attached screenshot.

    The theme in use here http://dev.eaffinepapers.com/portfolio/ right now is the parent theme. Could you switch to the child theme please.

    By the way the system is slow because of ticksy.com. They are working on fixing this.

    Hi aaenvato,

    Apologies for the late reply.

    The style.css file for the child theme does not seem to load so we added your CSS to appearance \ customize - custom CSS and it works.
